Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Screen Magic.

What’s an easier alternative to soap and water for cleaning window screens?
Use Screen Magic — a specialized cleaner made just for cleaning window screens. Spray it on or wipe it with a microfiber towel — no rinsing, no scrubbing, no mess. Available nationwide at Ace Hardware.
Before using Screen Magic do I need to scrub or rinse off screens with water?
No, scrubbing or rinsing is not necessary. Do not use Screen Magic on wet screens because it dilutes the product and will not work as well. Just spray on Screen Magic and you’re done. On very dirty screens, you may want to use a dry brush or microfiber towel to brush the big dirt and edges of the screen first. You will usually see heavy dirt and dust build-up where the screen attaches to the frame. Many customers use a microfiber towel to even out spots they may have missed instead of using extra product to cover every square inch. Screen Magic looks the same wet as it does dry, making it easy to pick spots you missed.
How do I treat screens I can't or don't want to take off, like a security door or sliding screen door?
First, we recommend following the directions above for really dirty screens. Thoroughly saturate a microfiber towel and wipe the screen with the microfiber towel. This method works just as well as spraying, and some people prefer it.
How does Screen Magic work, where does the dust go?
Our special formula of emulsions, UV inhibitors, glossing agents, and dust repellents doesn’t just cover the dust, it destroys it. The dust particles are organically dissolved, making the screens look like new, and the dust repellents help keep them looking that way.
How long will the screens look like new?
Screens will stay looking like new for about 4–6 months depending on conditions in your area.
How long does Screen Magic take to dry?
Our tests have shown it takes Screen Magic about 20–30 minutes to fully dry, depending on temperature and humidity.
Is it OK if Screen Magic gets on plants or grass? What surfaces can I use it on?
Screen Magic has no effect on plants or grass. We do not recommend cleaning screens on a cement driveway. Even though Screen Magic will evaporate from cement fairly quickly, you may see outlines of the screen on the concrete when it rains. Do not spray on asphalt, most paints, or cool decks on pools or patios; it may be visible for months. We recommend treating screens over gravel or grass.
Does Screen Magic look the same when it’s dry as when it’s wet?
Yes. This helps you pick out spots on the screen that you may have missed right away instead of waiting for them to dry like when you scrub them with soap and water.
Does Screen Magic work on all types of screens?
Screen Magic works on all types of screens, including bug screens, sliding screen doors, and solar window screens of all different colors.
Does Screen Magic contain any chemicals?
Screen Magic is completely green. Screen Magic contains no solvents, no phosphorus, and no petroleum distillates that can cause ozone depletion. Screen Magic is non-flammable, inert, and non-reactive.
How much Screen Magic does it take to treat a screen?
It takes about .50 oz to treat an average screen. One gallon of Screen Magic can treat up to 250 screens.
Will Screen Magic transfer to the window if it rains?
Once Screen Magic is dry, usually 20–30 minutes after applying, there is no visible product transfer to the window.
If Screen Magic gets on the window does it make the window hard to clean the next time?
Screen Magic does not make glass hydrophobic. You can test this yourself by spraying Screen Magic directly on a window, wiping it off, and then cleaning the window as you normally do.
More Tips!
Since 90% of the dirt and dust is on the outside, if you have two screens about the same size you can put the screens back to back and spray both outside surfaces. The blow-through usually cleans the inside side, so you have cleaned two screens for the price of one. When applying to security doors with screens and arcadia sliding screen doors, you don’t need to remove the screens. Put down a tarp to cover the floor if you’re spraying it on the screen. You can also saturate a microfiber towel and wipe it on without covering the floor. Screen Magic works great either way.
